HPfHR & Lobbying on Healthcare reform

Dear Group,
It is difficult to sit here on the sidelines, as it were, watching rather helplessly as this fight in Congress over health insurance reform continues. It is frustrating to realize that even if the Obama administration gets the “Public Option” plan passed, there is no guarantee that it will work the way it is supposed to. This is especially true if it gets emasculated by the special interest groups (including, I’m ashamed to say, our own AMA). Today NPR had a piece on lobbying in healthcare reform that drove the point home; how can a grassroots organization like ours have our voice heard without lobbying clout?

I would be interested in your reactions and suggestions.
